How I Built My 'Blue Space' to Cut Screen Time and Reclaimed My Life from the Digital Noise
Introduction: The Unlikely Path to Presence
Meditation? Breathing exercises? Sitting quietly? Honestly, for me, all that mindfulness stuff always sounded like a distant, almost "woo-hoo hippie" concept. My journey to presence didn't start with yoga mats or gurus; in fact, it started far from it, in a world of concrete and rebar.
I got here through an unlikely passion: building artificial rock structures. I was fascinated by the giant, lifelike faux rock habitats I’d seen at places like the Oregon Zoo – how did they build that stuff? I tracked down a 30-year veteran rock-building artist, learned the ropes, and from there, my own amazing journey began. I never imagined it would lead me to where I am today, and honestly, it feels like I'm just getting started.
This personal quest ultimately revealed how to create a tranquil escape from constant digital demands, offering a simple way to reduce phone addiction and foster genuine connection.
The Grand Vision: Impact vs. Accessibility in Water Features
My lessons with the master builder often focused on crafting truly monumental water features. And while I loved the impact, I quickly realized that these grand-scale creations weren't obtainable for most people. They either didn't have the space, or the budget, for a giant, custom-built waterfall.
So, I started building smaller water features – elegant tabletops and compact designs for others. They were fun, but I couldn't shake the feeling that they didn't quite capture the same immersive, all-encompassing impact of the larger installations. I wanted to bring that profound sense of peace and connection to everyone, not just those with vast backyards and unlimited resources.
My Personal Breakthrough: Creating a Tech-Free Haven for Connection
It wasn't until I built a significant water feature in my own backyard that everything clicked. This wasn't just a decoration; it became the heart of our home. It was the place that naturally drew us together, a quiet corner where we truly felt grounded in the moment.
This was our "blue space"—a haven that allowed my family and me to turn off responsibilities, put away our phone, and simply be present. And believe me, that's much harder than it sounds! I'd constantly want to spend quality time with my kids, but there was always something else that needed to get done around the house. And then, once the chores were (mostly) finished, I’d be too tired, just collapsing onto the couch with my phone glued to my face.
Our blue space changed that. It became a permission slip to truly unplug and significantly cut screen time for all of us.
Finding the Sweet Spot: Fountain Kits for Immersive Calm, Accessible to All
I knew the smaller fountains weren't enough to create that immersive, habit-changing experience. But the giant ones were out of reach for most. What was needed was a "sweet spot"—something that was budget-friendly, easy to set up, and immersive enough to deliver the grounding power of a giant water feature.
This is where our Triple Fountains came in.
Through years of fine-tuning our designs and systems, we discovered a way to combine accessibility with powerful, sensory immersion. We developed easy-to-assemble fountain kits that bring the profound benefits of a blue space into any home or business. These indoor water features are specifically designed to help you reduce digital distractions and enhance your natural environment.
Permission to Be: Why You Deserve This Time
(and how to reduce phone addiction)
In our distracted world, everyone deserves a place like this. A blue space gives you permission to do nothing. To ignore those endless chores that will never truly end anyway. To understand that the goalpost of "enough" always moves further ahead.
For some, stepping into this space—this moment of pure presence—comes easily. Perhaps they feel fulfilled, or they feel they’ve "earned" this time. But the hardest part, and ironically the most critical, is stepping into that space when you don’t feel you deserve it. That internal voice saying, "I didn't make enough money," "I've got to keep hustling." That "never enough" feeling, I know it well, because I struggle with it too. It’s hard to turn things off or prioritize fun when I don’t feel I’ve earned it.
But you do deserve it. Your blue space isn't a reward; it's a necessity. It gives you permission to escape, to be in the moment, and to listen to your heart instead of your constantly buzzing head. It’s a powerful tool to cut screen time and nurture genuine well-being.
